My Photography Gear

Owning a Nikon system has been my photography dream for a long time. Being a perpetual student, I realize that I have to start now, or I may never make it. Over the past 5 years, I have accumulated quite a collection!

I finally found myself in complete digital age on March 2005, when I got D70 Digital SLR. This is like I am liberated from the tortures by my little Canon point & shoot A70. Now my 4 year old "little lady" is in complete control over the A70. Well, soon I will attach some images using D70.

I only use NEF format for D70, which is actually a compressed NEF format. NEF is a manufacturer version of RAW format. Someone argues it is lossless image, and the others says some information loss during the compression. As for me, I do not really care. The images are so sharp, and they do not loose sharpness even when I blow them up tol 300%. In fact, they are still better than images produced by my little Canon without any magnification. Sure I cannot compare 3.2MP little camera with 6.1MP SLR.....

The accompanying lens is very light, very quiet, and pretty fast. In fact, this is the fastest lens I own. I cannot make any technical review about its quality, but for me it is very sharp. Since I own 105mm Micro Nikkor, I think I can stand by my comment.

The provided software called Nikon Picture Project is very slow. After I read some articles, I downloaded Nikon View 6.2.5, which is the accompanying software in Europe and Asia. It is clearly faster than Picture Project. Some folks suggested to use free software called Picasa 2.0 from Google, and of course the infamous Adobe Photoshop CS to open RAW from from Nikon D70. Surprisingly, I believe Nikon View shows me better images than Photoshop CS. At least in my monitor. I am sure the optional $99 Nikon Capture 4.2 must be much better than Nikon View.

Below is the list of equipment that I have collected. You can also see them in the form of gallery in here.
